Guitar Time?
I got out my Les Paul which is a sorely neglected guitar. I have two Gibson guitars and every time I play them I marvel at how great and consistent they are. Two things wrong for me, though: I love my Gretsches. However, they’re so hard to play compared to the Gibsons. (btw, I’ve been playing my daughter’s 3/4 scale Strat quite a bit and I think I like smaller scale guitars.)
Second, the pickups on the Gibson are way too hot. They have no dynamics whatsoever. Oh, I guess there’s a third problem that’s really sort of related to the first, bit it deserves mention. I love Bigsby tailpieces and my Gibsons don’t have any.
So, I think the solution is a Gibson ES-295. It’s hollow like the Grestches, has the Bigsby like the Grestches, but has the Gibson scale length and hopefully the quality and consistency of a Gibson. Years ago I could have gotten one for like $1200, now they’re $5000. I’ve been feeling this for quite a long time though, so it may happen…
